NES introduces a new DC grid power distribution system
Recently, Norwegian Power Systems (NES) has introduced a new DC grid power distribution system that claims to be capable of variable generator speed operation for diesel-electric ships of any size.
     It is reported that this Odin's Eye system is based on NES's existing Quadro drive inverter, which connects the inverter to the "ring scheme". All important equipment can be handled as independent power units instead of the previous ones. Only two separate switchboards reduce the space occupied by the generator and propulsion motor. These power units can be used in combination or independently. The new system is highly redundant and fast short-circuit protected, making it ideal for military vessels and simply adding batteries or connecting to shore power.
