The eddy current sensor consists of a probe and a preamplifier. The probe consists of a coil, a skeletal shell, a radio frequency cable, and a high frequency plug (see figure). The main function of the probe is the coil. The coil is excited by the high frequency signal from the preamplifier to generate a high frequency magnetic field. When the metal object to be measured approaches the coil L, eddy currents are generated on the metal surface due to the effect of high frequencies. Equivalent to a short-circuit coil, which will generate a magnetic field to resist changes in the high-frequency magnetic field. This process consumes energy, increases the inductance loss of the coil, reduces the Q value, and reduces the degree of the Q value between the plane of the coil and the surface of the measured object. From the block diagram of the front-end circuit, it can be seen that it is composed of a capacitor and a sensor coil in parallel to form an LC resonant tank. When the distance between the inductor and the measured object changes, the Q value of the inductor changes, so the LC oscillator outputs a voltage signal. After correction, a voltage signal that is linearly related to the displacement of the measured object can be obtained.
